U.S. Navy Selects CTI for Sonar System Improvements

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) today selected Creative Technologies Inc. to develop advanced artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities for its surface fleet sonar system, the AN/SQQ-89(V), often referred to as “SQQ-89”. The contract, a Small Business Innovation Research award, will identify knowledge and skill gaps drawn from user logs, both in tactical engagements and training scenarios.

The system, dubbed Acoustic Sensor Operator Performance Analytics (APA), includes the development of a novel expert model trained by observing skilled operators to assess user performance. Identified weaknesses are matched to content, including text and video, in Moodle Learning Management System courses, flagged for relevancy. If all contract options are exercised, the technology will be transitioned to the fleet in the 2025/2026 timeframe.
